Clara Belk is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. In her undergraduate studies at Tufts University, she double majored in Arabic and international relations, with a concentration in international security.
Prior to graduate school, Belk completed a year of national service with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, leading a disaster response team in Mississippi and Louisiana, and is a 2022 recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Belk also served as a regional get out the vote director in Minnesota, contributing to the state’s top rank in voter turnout nationwide during the 2020 election.
Belk is interested in social policy, particularly the intersections of affordable housing with social justice, climate change, and voting. At the LBJ school, she is developing her statistical analysis and software skills with Stata, and is involved with the Feminist Policy Alliance and the Queer Policy Coalition. Belk hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC focused on affordable housing, working with a federal agency or NGO.
