Hugo Lyzandro Garcia is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. He is a magna cum laude graduate in criminal justice from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a minor in legal studies.
While earning his undergrad degree, Garcia interned with the Office of Representative Martinez at the State Capitol and, through the Bill Archer Fellowship program, worked for Congressman Mike Quigley at the U.S. Capitol. In both positions, he conducted bill analysis and research on issues of concern to the districts, wrote memos, and attended hearings. His experiences at the state and national levels are where he witnessed the importance and direct impact of legislation for low-income and marginalized communities.
Garcia hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC, working on social policy through the federal government or policy development in the nonprofit setting.
