Littler, Elise

2017 LBJ DC Fellow

Elise Littler received her Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. She majored in English literature as an undergraduate at the University of British Columbia, and she is interested in farm policy, particularly in the context of farm animal welfare in the United States agriculture industry. As an undergraduate, Elise worked as an advocacy/field intern at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, helping to establish and strengthen affiliate organizations at local universities, to garner volunteer support for fundraising and advocacy events and to develop campaigns to raise awareness of national and statewide issues pertaining to health care reform and reproductive rights. This work heightened her interest in nonprofits and the role that community momentum plays in effecting social and legislative change. Prior to graduate school, Elise spent two years in the private sector as a business operations specialist for a rapidly growing federal contractor, where she gained project management, business strategy and marketing skills. In Austin, she took an extra elective course in nonprofit management and strategy to strengthen her understanding of leadership and management and to gain insights about the challenges, issues and strategies specific to nonprofit work.
Elise undertook her 2017 Policy Apprenticeship at the Humane Society of the United States.
