Mauliola Harley Gonsalves is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. A cum laude graduate in international relations from Gonzaga University, she minored in French and public relations.
Prior to graduate school, Gonsalves served as a college adviser with the Virginia College Advising Corps, a joint program with AmeriCorps and the University of Virginia. This experience encouraged her interest in aiding marginalized and disenfranchised communities through social, political and economic development.
Gonsalves is a teaching assistant for the History Department at the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Liberal Arts. Gonsalves also serves as the communications director for the Baines Report, a student-led publishing of the LBJ School.
Gonsalves hopes to complete her Policy Apprenticeship in DC with the White House Initiative on Asian American, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, with Senator Brian Schatz (HI) through his work in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and as chairman for the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, or in the Department of State serving the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.
Policy Interest: Social policy, public diplomacy, indigenous foreign policy, regulatory affairs
