2024 LBJ DC Fellow
Alyssa Higgins is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School of Public Affairs in Austin. She earned a Bachelor of Science in economics at Louisiana State University.
After graduation, she moved to Houston to work on the Beto for Texas Campaign. While working for the campaign, she had the opportunity to learn about the most important issues affecting the citizens of Houston. This practical experience served as a great foundation to understand her policy areas of interest.
Prior to graduate school, she worked for Reading Partners, an Americorp non-profit in Washington, DC that focuses on elementary-level literacy intervention in under-resourced schools intending to interrupt systemic racism, poverty, and inequality.
Higgins is interested in economic development and health economics, particularly in the context of public health. At LBJ, she took an elective course to learn more about the intersection between discrimination, economic outcomes, and policy.
