2024 LBJ DC Fellow

Christian Aguirre is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. He received dual degrees in political science and public relations at the University of Houston.

While earning his undergraduate degrees, Aguirre gained experience in city government by interning for Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston’s Complete Communities. Prior to graduate school, he served as a policy analyst and communications aide to Texas State Senator Carol Alvarado.

Fostered by his personal experience growing up undocumented in the US, Aguirre developed an interest in domestic policy, particularly in the context of immigration and higher education. He is the current vice-chair of the City of Austin’s LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission, recommending measures that enhance the overall well-being of the LGBTQ community to the city council.

Aguirre hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC focused on immigration working with the Domestic Policy Council (DPC), US Senator Dick Durbin, or the Senate Judiciary Committee.
