What's it really like to study at LBJ? Find out from a student in the Master of Global Policy Studies (MGPS) program and the Master of Public Affairs (MPAff) program, who can talk about classes, student groups, going to school in Austin and what makes the school unique.
Meet your hosts:
Holly Buttrey is a second-year MGPS candidate from Vermont. Academically, she's interested in social policy in Latin America and is currently researching Chinese-financed infrastructure projects in Peru and Brazil. Prior to LBJ she worked in higher education as an international recruiter for her alma mater, Carleton College, working throughout the Western Hemisphere. She's an intern with Faire Inc., a co-captain of the LBJ intramural softball team and a frequent queso consumer at Mi Madre's restaurant. After LBJ she hopes to be an advocate and educator, preferably somewhere with four seasons and lots of snow.
Lindsey Harbison is a second-year MPAff and nonprofit studies portfolio candidate from North Carolina. She is interested in social and economic policy with a focus on children and families. She is currently working with the City of Austin on a project to evaluate city-supported job training programs designed to serve low-income populations. She also serves as an intern at the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, where she conducts research and supports programming for entrepreneurship. Prior to LBJ, she spent two years serving with the Duke College Advising Corps, where she guided students and families on the journey from high school to college, career or military. In her free time she enjoys putting on events with LBJ’s Feminist Policy Alliance, volunteering with CASA of Travis County and spending time on the beautiful trails and rivers of Austin with her husband. After LBJ, Harbison hopes to do work that advances underserved youth and families in local government or the nonprofit sector.
