2024 LBJ DC Fellow

Alex Claycomb is a candidate for the Master of Global Policy Studies (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. Prior to his enrollment at LBJ, Claycomb completed three years of doctoral coursework in the Department of Government at UT Austin and earned an MA in Government. He holds a BA with honors in political science and Spanish from Grinnell College. 

Claycomb studies democracy and development, with a focus on Latin America and the Global South. His master's thesis explores the political and institutional challenges that hinder energy policy reform in Latin America. He has travelled throughout the region, conducted field research in the Andes and Southern Cone, and speaks fluent Spanish. He spent a year studying in Salamanca, Spain, during his undergraduate years.

Previously, Claycomb worked as a Deputy Clerk at the Supreme Court of Texas, providing him with valuable exposure to top elected officials and sparking his interest in public service. At UT Austin, Claycomb is a graduate teaching assistant for a social science methodology course in the Sociology Department.

He aspires to secure a Policy Apprenticeship in Washington, DC, focusing on policy research and analysis related to Latin American affairs at a think tank or non-profit organization.
