2025 LBJ DC Fellow
Mara Luz Gomez is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. She majored in Human Development and Family Studies and obtained her Nonprofit Professional credentials from the University of Houston.
Prior to graduate school, Gomez worked at LINK Houston, a nonprofit that advocates for transportation equity and climate justice. This experience developed her interest in how public transportation, large infrastructure projects, and climate justice impact Black and Brown communities’ quality of life.
At the LBJ school, she is involved in the Latino Policy Research Symposium’s steering committee and is taking an elective course where she is growing her research and writing skills as she learns about the past, present, and future of urban mobility. While in graduate school, she hopes to sharpen her data analysis and research skills.
Gomez hopes to find a policy apprenticeship in DC focused on transportation, working with a national nonprofit, think-tank, or federal government.
