2025 LBJ DC Fellow
Veronica Alcantar is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. She majored in both English and Mexican American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
While completing her undergraduate studies, Alcantar worked in multiple government offices, including the Texas House of Representatives, and for various legal non-profits, such as the ACLU of Texas. After graduation, Alcantar spent four months working in the Democratic Cloakroom as an Executive Office Intern for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Upon completing the internship, she spent six months working as a legal assistant for a law firm in San Antonio, Texas.
Alcantar is interested in civil rights and education policy, specifically how they affect Latino and Native American populations, including the quality of life on Native American reservations, Latino educational outcomes, and the representation of Indigenous groups in governments across the world.
Alcantar hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC focused on tribal affairs, working within either the executive or legislative branch.
